Fergie

G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S yeah, I started to feel glamorous when I heard that we booked Fergie for an episode of The Mention.

For those of you that don’t know (which is offensive honestly), The Mention is weekly pop culture show that I co-produce and co-host with my two work wives, Emily Curl and Arianna Davis. The show originated as Poppin Bottles, then became Pop of Culture, and now is The Mention. The name changes are not significant, but it is worth pointing out how much the show has grown since last February, when it first started. It took a lot of trial and error to see what stuck. Ultimately, we had to think: what would make our show different than The View or E news? Well for one, being part of Refinery29 means being part of a larger conversation: we support women and their voices. Our show wouldn’t be a gossip hour, (although we love to spill the tea!), it’s important that our show had substance, that we talked about real issues and how media shapes the perception of women. Apart from that, we wanted to invite guests and make them feel relaxed, like they were at brunch with their girlfriends! Fergie fit right in. I couldn’t believe how chill she was, given her level of success. It made me think about the other celebrity guests that have graced the halls of Refinery29. No matter how successful, beautiful, or smart they are - the most memorable ones share one quality: being nice. It sounds silly but I will always remember the celebrities that came into our studio and shook each crew member's hand and repeated their name out loud. (Future princess of England aka Meghan Markle I’m looking at you girl!) Overall, our episode of The Mention was nothing but Fergalicious. It was awesome to see a woman take time out of her career to focus on herself and her child, and then bounce back like she never left. She isn’t called The Dutchess for nothing! Check out the episode below!
